4B Homework Book Practice 3 (Improper Fractions & Mixed Numbers)
- I've taught you 2 ways to convert an Improper Fraction to a mixed number.

Method 1 - Form as many wholes as you can. The remaining parts will make up a proper fraction.
Method 2 - Use the long division. The quotient is the Whole number in the mixed number. The remainder goes to the numerator. The divisor goes to the denominator.

• Magic Numbers: 2,3,5 (Pizza Hut); followed by 7/11 (7 Eleven)
• Always start with dividing by 2 to simplify a fraction. 
• If cannot divide by 2 , then try the next number 3.
• If cannot divide by 3, then try the next number 5, followed by 7, then 11.

Multiplication by 1 digit - Using the concept of Place Value

• This method is important to help you understand the meaning to each numbers. 
• Understanding this will help when we start multiplication by 2 digit.

Multiplication by 1 digit - Using the Procedure Method

• This is a widely known and used method where you do the regrouping by writing the number on top of another number. 
• This method is faster but there can be careless mistakes when you simply just memorise the steps to doing the multiplication with understanding the concept of place value.

• You have received the Multiplication Time Table Chart for 1-10 today. Keep this with you in your Homework File everyday.

• You need to be very good at your multiplication time table to be able to do Factor, Multiples & Multiplication by 1 and 2 digits numbers.
• You will be tested everyday during Math Lesson on simple timetable.

Practice 1 Factors

We have gone through answers to Homework Book Practice 1 - Factors. These are the common mistakes.
Common mistakes

• Did not list the factors in ascending order.
• Incomplete listing  of factors. You must start with the smallest digit 1, followed by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. 
• Stop listing when you see that the factors have repeated itself. E.g. 2 x 6; 6 x 2
